* More power distribution options than the previous generations of Dell racks
* Excellent airflow with 80% perforated doors
* Additional 6U height provides maximum density
* Superior design facilitates more cabling options

Overview

Exceedingly Strong and Secure

With a static load rating of 2,500 lbs (1.13 metric tons), the 4820 rack provides the necessary weight capacity to hold a full complement of data center equipment. With 6U more vertical space than the 4220, the 4820 allows equipment installation to the maximum density available in a Dell rack.

Available accessories include stabilizer bars to secure the rack to the floor or ‘ganging kits’ to bolt it to adjacent racks for increased stability. Other options include a rack fan, an equipment shelf, a 1U KMM console, and blanking panels.

Lockable doors at the front and rear provide security in a wide range of environments such as data centers, remote offices, wiring closets or even factory floors.

Important PDU Mounting Features

In addition to U-space power distribution unit (PDU) mounting, the PowerEdge 4820 rack enclosure allows PDUs to be easily mounted at the back along the doors in specially designed trays — no tools necessary. With more space between the back panels of the server and the PDU outlets than previous Dell racks, the PDUs mounted near the rear doors won’t interfere with air circulation.

Made to Stay Cool

The 4820 rack is designed for better airflow with 80% of the front and rear doors perforated. It’s deeper than previous Dell racks (1070mm vs 1000mm), so there’s more space for hot air to move out of the rack. Flexible air dams help keep hot air from moving from the back to the front, a problem common in many racks. Available blanking panels can further manage air flow for unused U-space in the rack.

For hot-aisle/cold-aisle thermally efficient datacenter topologies, the rack’s footprint matches standard 2-foot floor tile placement to optimize access to cold air.

Removable Tail-bars

A Bundle of Cable Management Options

The increase in depth to 1070mm helps the 4820 rack accommodate servers with deeper dimensions, while still providing space for cable management. The large open base and dual side panels with removable sections on both sides provide more options for cable access.

Removable "tail-bars" at the top and bottom of the back frame eliminate a common obstacle to power and cable routing. The bars can be re-attached after the cables are in place.
Other access features include:
  • Dual rear doors with single latch mechanism
  • Reversible front door
  • Removable front and rear doors
  • Rotating rear casters
  • Easily accessible leveling feet
